KSDK -- An Imperial man is dead after accidentally shooting himself in the head while teaching his girlfriend firearms safety.
Sheriff Glenn Boyer said that on Friday, deputies responded to 4307 Rock Valley Court in Imperial for a shooting. Investigators found 40-year-old James Looney with a gunshot wound to the head.
According to witnesses, Looney was demonstrating how to use the different safety mechanisms on several guns to his girlfriend. The witnesses said Looney would put the guns to his head, and before pulling the trigger, would ask her if she thought the gun would go off. With the first two guns, the safety mechanisms worked. The third gun fired.
Looney was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next morning.
According to witnesses, Looney was going to take his girlfriend to the shooting range the next day, but insisted on the lesson on firearm safety the day before.

Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot.

The best safety for any gun is us.
LOL true... Show off in bed... LMFSAO
LMFAO
I usually get off in bed.
But then, that's just me.
There is no such thing as an empty firearm. Never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to shoot. Never shoot anything that you don't intend to kill. Simple rules to live by, literally.
Did the idiot ever think the safety device might fail or be broken. Like I said many times...stupid people shouldn't be permitted to breed or own firearms. I have a shit load of guns (all tpyes) and my kids know not to go near them. I made a closet in a spare bedroom a walk in safe. And I mean the walls inside and outside the closet are re-inforced with metal. And the door is metal with a digital and rolling lock mechanism on it. More people need to be attentative to the safety of their firearms. Of course I leave out one or two for home defense. But still those have a lock on the gun. Figured the dogs will hold any intruder off long enough for me to unlock the handgun or shotgun if I need to use them.
